Sim fun, on the Run

Dawn of Expansion is built from the ground-up to be a mobile experience.

There are a lot of games out there offering entertainment while on the go - but Dawn of Expansion offers more.

  • Deep simulation gameplay

  • Rich, randomized tech trees to discover & exploit

  • Cloud Saves

  • ...and more

Take your station with you - work towards that next milestone, and enjoy it when you can.

The power of your station is at your fingertips.

There are no artificial time pressures - no race against the clock. You build your station how you see fit. Expand as slowly and methodically as you can; or burn through your budgets to broaden your station's functionality.

Unlike other mobile games, there are no annoying "Pay to build now" options - no time gates holding you up - this is 100% classic simulation gaming. The way it should be done.

Relaxed Pace
Balance is Key

Being the Administrator for an entire station is not an easy job. You're essentially in charge of an artificial ecosystem. Do you build that extra Solar Array for a boost in power, knowing that it will tax the Cooling Systems of the station? Or how about that Communication Relay that would give a nice revenue stream - knowing that it will require more of your crew to operate?

Build your station correctly and you'll reap the rewards of being the pioneer of human expansion into space.

Make the wrong mistakes however; and you could live on to be one of humanities greatest lessons in failure.

You Make This Possible

Thanks for your help!

Development of Dawn of Expansion is being done completely independent. I'm literally making this game in my wee free hours throughout the days. I even work on this during my lunch hours...

Donations are NOT expected by any means; but am always grateful for any and all assistance that people would like to throw at the project.

In addition to getting my eternal gratitude, you will be mentioned in the credits of the game as a "Founder" and for a minimum $3 donation; will be given a copy of the game for lending a hand!

F.A.Q.

01 - What is Dawn of Expansion?

  • Dawn of Expansion is a simulation of building, maintaining, expanding, and overseeing a space station in the near future. As the Station Administrator (S.A.) you are going to be charged with making sure that your crew survives, the station prospers, and you decide what direction Research & Development will take you. Overall you are the master of your own artificial ecosystem - build modules to help advance science, observe the universe, spy on the planet, advertise to the masses, build an orbital refining operation the likes of which mankind has never seen - the choices are yours to make!

  • You can find more details below the FAQ list (more will be added as the project continues).

  • Special Thanks can be found at the bottom of this page!

02 - What platforms will Dawn of Expansion be available?

  • The initial launch of DoE will be for mobile platforms - Android first, and iOS devices shortly after. A PC version of the game is possible, based on intial reception.

03 - When is it being released?

  • As much as I'd like to pick a specific date to say the game will be finished, I can't say that with 100% certainty. I will say that I'm shooting to be feature-complete by the end of 2013. The full game will likely be available in 2014.

04 - Will there be multiplayer?

  • Multiplayer is not planned for the first game. For the sequel (should there be one) multiplayer will be more integrated and planned out from the outset.

05 - How much will it cost?

  • This is a fairly loaded question - there should be a demo version of the game that will be available for free. Initial thoughts are that the full version of the game will probably be $2.99.

06 - What language is Dawn of Expansion coded in?

  • C# - the core game engine it is being built on is Unity.

07 - Will there be DLC (Downloadable Content)?

  • There are plans for module blueprints to be available as paid DLC, but don't let that scare you - there will be plenty of modules to sustain gameplay without the need of paid DLC. Additional modules will be available after the game launches.

08 - I'm interested in helping test - is there any way I can join the testing volunteers?

  • As of right now, I'm not sure how many testers I'm going to need. If you'd like to volunteer to help test early copies of the game - drop me a message and I'll add your name to the list. As I need more input, I'll be bringing more people into the fold.

09 - What are the minimum device requirements for the game?

  • I'm doing everything I can to ensure the widest variety of devices will be able to play Dawn of Expansion. Android devices will have to at least be running Gingerbread in order for it to work. The iOS verison requirements will be established later.

10 - I really like the idea, and wouldn't mind supporting the project. Are donations being accepted? What would the money be going towards?

  • I'll be very clear - donations to the project are being accepted - but they are in no way being expected. If you would like to donate, scroll to the bottom of this page to find the paypal link. If you are going to donate; I can't thank you enough for your generosity!

  • I am trying to develop Dawn of Expansion as leanly as possilble (hence the free Wix site hosting this) - therefore any donations will actually go towards the project's costs directly. I will be using any donations to help pay for full game engine licenses, buying development hardward, paying artists, music composers, and eventually setting up a dedicated website (not through Wix) to name a few items.

On your Own, or with the Help of Big Brother?

As a preview - several options will be available when deciding what kind of station you'll operate (these almost act like difficulty levels):

  • Government - Who said all government oversight was bad? As an SA representing a superpower government, you'll have large operational budgets, low project requirements, loose deadlines, and very little repercussions for mistakes and environmental disasters. Granted, most of the R&D budget will be allocated for projects that don't directly benefit the station... after all, what better way to keep an eye on your adversaries than to observe them from above over 350 miles away?

  • Public Corporation - Being an SA for a major conglomerate has it's perks - in addition to having the nicest living quarters on the whole station, VIP access to the best equipment dealers, and expedited orders on the world commodity markets. However; don't expect those perks to come easily - Corporate stations have rapid project offerings, expect high levels of station efficiency, and deadlines don't exactly slide well. Money is given to those SA's that deserve it - by showing the Corporation that the station can make money quickly and effectively.

  • Private Station - For those SA's hoping to have more of an entrepenueral experience; being the Administrator of your own private station gives you the greatest level of freedom - pick up your own contracts, decide where R&D is spent, and expand the station based around your own whims. But boot-strapping a station privately is no cheap experience - don't expect your starting budgets to be very high and nobody will be there to guard you from mistakes.

A Myriad of Modules

Modules will define the stations functionality. As the Station Administrator, you will be in charge of decidinig what types of modules to build.

Ore refineries, gas processing plants, hybrid power stations, communication relays, orbital obervatories, luxury lodging for the world's fabulously wealthy, high-tech research laboratories, missile defence systems, refueling stations for space operations, training facilities for future astronauts of the world - the possibilities go on and on.

Each module will have an impact on the station - it's up to you to find the appropriate balance to keep things operational.
